About LIG Nanowise: LIG Nanowise is a growing VC and Government backed start-up based in Manchester, focused on the development of cutting-edge nano-technologies, especially for microscopy. Our core technology is based on using microsphere technology to massively amplify the power of scientific instruments in a variety of fields. We just launched to market our first product, a super-resolution optical microscope that uses microspheres to achieve record-breaking performance. Our world first 400x objective lens gained global media coverage after its launch in 2017 and we are looking to expand our commercial networks in the wake of this successful launch.
Your role You will provide engineering expertise to bear on both the manufacturing and R&D sides of the business. This will include system optimisation and manufacturing targets whilst advising the rest of the engineering team on optimal product setups. This is a small company with significant potential to learn, grow and take on responsibility.
Qualifications and Skills: A MSc (PhD desirable) in Optical Engineering based subjects or equivalent.
Required Skills:- microscopy optics design experience;- experience in the specification of optical materials, optical processes and tolerances; - experience with the use of optics modelling tools and FDTD (Finite-difference time-domain) tools; - Design specifications for microscope designs utilising optical, electronic and mechanical components; - develop existing optical technologies and conceive of new ones to solve customer problems; - assisting the management team in CE and ISO standards implementation;Desirable skills:-practical experience in assembling mechanical, optical and optomechanical components-basic knowledge and practical skills of mechanical engineering;

Salary £33,000 - £37,000 /year based on experience
